Another report from the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) featuring serious problems in the management (not the misuse) of level crossings.  It is the third such report highlighting these problems ON THE SAME LINE.  Let's hope that it is the last.

RAIB REPORT LEIGHTON BUZZARD

 The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) has issued a Safety Digest relating to a near miss at Leighton Buzzard on 16th June this year.  It is, like so many other reports from RAIB, a chilling insight into the mess that is the division of labour on our national rail network. Two contractors could easily have been killed. A near miss was reported by a train travelling at 125MPH.  They failed to follow some pretty basic track safety rules (eg crossing and recrossing the West Coast Mainline without protection) but more to the point they were working on the railway without the permission or knowledge of Network Rail.   RAIB has pointed out track worker issues over and over again.  Let's hope that this case will be picked up by HMRI  (ORR) and appropriate action taken. 7th August 2020 https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/safety-digest-052020-leighton-buzzard https://youtu.be/BJlj7tdzVwU #railwaysafety #raib #orr #railwayacident
